In the three years since he and his brotherhood of Assassins purged Roma of the Templars, Ezio Auditore has known some semblance of peace, but no peace of mind. Seeking answers, the master assassin journeys to the homeland of his ancestors, the city of Masyaf, to find the lost library of the legendary Altair Ibn La’Ahad. But, no hero’s welcome awaits Ezio there. The city is overrun by Templars, who themselves seek entrance to the library, where a powerful artifact and the secrets of the Asssassin Order lay locked within. With this artifact, the Templars would possess the power not only to crush the Assassins but control the destiny of all humankind.

Five keys are needed to unlock the library, each hidden in the vast city of Constantinople – a sprawling metropolis standing astride two continents and teeming with Templars, Assassins and Ottoman Janissaries. With each key, Ezio gains not only an advantage over his enemies, but an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the legendary Altair, reliving a pivotal moment from the master assassin’s life.

What began for Ezio as a pilgrimage becomes a race against time and the Templars to find the keys. By his blood and by his Creed, he must prevail.

Fan-favorites from Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood are back -- including Wanted, Manhunt, Escort and Chest Capture – plus brand new modes designed to challenge even the most highly skilled Templar agents:

Deathmatch – Find and kill assigned targets and avoid being killed by your pursuers. Templars compete in a smaller section of a map. Chases and use of the Compass are disabled. Quality kills boost scores.

Artifact Assault – Score team points by stealing the enemy's artifact from their base and carrying it back to yours. When within your own territory, you are a pursuer. Move into enemy territory and become a target. The team with the highest score at the end of the session wins.

Corruption – When "corrupted," your objective is to find and kill your targets as quickly as possible in order to spread your corruption. When uncorrupted, you must hide to survive as long as possible. Performing quality kills or surviving while close to corrupted Templars will boost your score.

Assassinate – Identify, acquire and assassinate the target of your choice, while avoiding being killed by other Templars. Performing quality kills will boost your score.

Steal the Artifact – Steal the artifact and keep it as long as you can to earn bonuses, and hide near your pursuers to increase your score. If a single Templar carries the artifact for two minutes, the artifact will be reset. Dying while holding the artifact will drop it.

Training Ground – In this noncompetitive, untimed mode you can explore the map, practice your abilities and find and kill assigned target VIPs in any way you see fit.

8 Unlockable Map Variations (night and dusk)

Assassin’s Creed Revelations features a total of 16 multiplayer personas – including unlockables and exclusives – with all new customizable features. As you progress through the multiplayer ranking system, you will be able to modify each existing character’s head, chest, arms, legs, belt, accessories, colors and weaponry. The customization interface is streamlined, enabling you to quickly rotate through designs.

Outside of tweaking the visual elements of your character, you're also able to customize three elements that directly and significantly affect gameplay - Abilities, Perks and Streaks.

Abilities, Perks, Kill Streaks and Loss Streaks come packaged in Ability Sets. Ability Sets are a way to personalize the behavior of and assign special powers to your personas. Each Ability Set can be composed of:

  • 2 Abilities
  • 2 Perks
  • 1 Kill Streak
  • 1 Loss Bonus

Abilities are triggered in game, and can range from unique weapons like Tripwire Bombs, to new abilities like Closure, which forces gates and doors in a map to open or close, trapping your enemies. In Assassin’s Creed Revelations, you will have 15 abilities to choose from, including:

  • Tripwire Bomb
  • Closure
  • Teleport
  • Bodyguard
  • Throwing Knives
  • Poison
  • Smoke Bombs
  • Morph
  • Mute
  • Charge
  • Disguise
  • Fire Crackers
  • Templar Vision
  • Hidden Gun
  • Decoy

Perks are more subtle in their effect, consisting of passive enhancements like the speed-enhancing Hot Pursuit or the crowd-dispersing Enhanced Autobash. Perks are effective for the entire duration of a game and have no cool down. The 10 perks available in Assassin’s Creed Revelations are:

  • Sentry
  • Hot Pursuit
  • Resilience
  • Kill Buffer
  • Enhanced Auto-Bash
  • Blender
  • Resistance
  • Overall Cooldowns
  • Fast Getaway
  • Easy Chase Breaker

Kill Streak bonuses are activated when you perform a series of kills or stuns and reward you with bonus points as your streak expands. Loss Streak bonuses are granted when you lose several contracts in a row, assisting your persona with temporary skills or score boosts.

Your persona's defensive abilities have increased significantly since Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. Stuns are more affective, allowing targets to defend themselves and escape from careless pursuers. A second defense mechanism called "Honorable Death" has also been added. When a hunter moves in for a kill, a properly-timed response from a targeted player can trigger a response that, while not preventing death, will reward points to the defender and temporarily weaken the attacker. It keeps the game competitive, continuing to encourage attackers to be creative and stealthy while pushing defenders to be vigilant. The end result is a core gameplay experience that is balanced, fair and true to the feel of Assassin’s Creed.

In 2012, Desmond Miles is abducted by the shadowy Abstergo Industries, a massive corporate conglomerate that serves as a modern-day front for the ancient Templar Order. During his captivity at Abstergo, Desmond learns of the violent ideological war between the Templars, who strive to establish a perfect society through domination, subjugation and the elimination of individual autonomy; and the Assassins, who believe that the only way to achieve a progressive society is to preserve free will for all humanity. For millennia, Templars and Assassins have battled over their beliefs, all the while grappling for possession of the mysterious “Pieces of Eden” – ancient artifacts said to be sources of unlimited knowledge and power. With a single Piece of Eden, the right man could conquer a continent, brainwashing its entire population.

At the hands of the Templars, Desmond is forced to relive the memories of a distant ancestor, the Assassin Altair, via a special device called the Animus. Inside the Animus, Desmond experiences key moments in the life of Altair as he cuts a bloody swath through the holy land and the Templar forces, rising through the ranks of the Assassins to earn the status of Master Assassin. As Altair’s memories begin to reveal a Third Crusade conspiracy, Desmond realizes that his Templar captors are using him to locate a particularly powerful artifact, one of the Apples of Eden, bringing them one step closer to their goals of eliminating the Assassins and establishing a New World Order. As the game concludes, the Templars have extracted the information they require from Desmond, leaving him to await his impending execution.

Picking up only days after the end of the original Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed II rejoins Desmond Miles as he narrowly escapes his captivity and execution, with the help of Abstergo employee and undercover Assassin Lucy Stillman. With Lucy, Desmond joins a group of Assassins in hiding, entering an advanced Animus device in the hopes of uncovering the secrets of the Pieces of Eden and thwarting the plans of the Templars. Inside the Animus 2.0, Desmond relives the genetic memories of his Renaissance-era ancestor, the young Italian nobleman Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

Ezio’s idyllic life is quickly turned on its head when his father and brothers are publicly executed by a traitor to the Auditore family. Forced to flee the city, Ezio finds safety in his uncle Mario’s countryside estate in Monteriggioni, and soon finds himself rebuilding the town into a haven and a stronghold against his enemies. Still thirsting for revenge against those who betrayed his family, Ezio learns of his Assassin heritage and joins the Assassin Order. As he beats a murderous path from Florence to Venice and eventually Rome, Ezio begins to tear away at a vast political conspiracy that slaughtered his family and so many others who went against it – each kill bringing him closer to the truth and the mastermind behind the plot, the powerful Templar Rodrigo Borgia. In possession of the very same Apple of Eden that Master Assassin Altair recovered centuries before, Rodrigo Borgia believes he is the long-awaited prophet of the Templars who will lead his order to power. Ezio and his Assassin allies confront Rodrigo, wresting the Apple from Templar hands before their plans can be fulfilled, but allowing Rodrigo to escape with his life.

Returning to the year 2012, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood finds Desmond and his team of modern-day Assassins fleeing to Monteriggioni, Italy, after another narrow escape from Templar forces. Desmond and crew quickly establish a base in the ruins of the Villa Auditore, where Desmond reenters the Animus to discover what became of the Apple of Eden, in the hopes of preventing it from falling into Templar hands yet again. Through the Animus, Desmond returns to the genetic memories of his ancestor, Ezio Auditore.

Having come into possession of a powerful Apple of Eden artifact, Ezio returns to Monteriggioni only to find it besieged by a Borgia army led by Cesare Borgia, son of Rodrigo, whose unchecked ambitions and Templar beliefs led directly to the murders of Ezio’s family. During the ensuing battle, Ezio’s uncle, Mario, is killed and the Apple of Eden is taken by Cesare. Now a Master Assassin, Ezio heads to Rome where he recruits a number of powerful allies who have grown resentful of the immense influence and political corruption of the Borgia family – Rodrigo himself now the Pope of the Holy Roman Church. With the help of his brotherhood of Assassins, Ezio purges Rome of the power-mad Borgias and retrieves the Apple of Eden, hiding it within an ancient temple.
